Renewables

In recent years, the way in which we generate, store, deliver, monitor and consume electricity has changed significantly. The global community continues its journey towards an energy transition with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Despite the challenges posed by the war, Ukraine remains committed to the sustainable development of energy, with a focus on ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply for consumers.

As of the beginning of 2025, the Ukrainian energy sector continues to be affected by the ongoing hostilities. A significant proportion of the renewable energy capacity remains at risk due to occupation or damage. However, the efforts to restore and modernise the infrastructure are already underway. It is estimated that restoring the capacities will require active attraction of investments and application of innovative solutions that will increase their sustainability and efficiency.

The Ukrainian government is strengthening its support for the renewable energy sector through:

  • Government incentives: tax breaks, “green” tariffs and special investor support programmes.
  • New legislation: The Law of Ukraine No. 3220-IX, adopted in 2023, has become crucial for supporting RES electricity producers.
  • Integration into the EU: implementation of EU standards in the field of renewable energy, which opens up new opportunities for funding from international institutions.

Innovation remains the foundation for the development of renewable energy. The key areas include:

  • Use of the latest energy storage systems (e.g. high-capacity batteries).
  • Automation and digitalisation of power grid management.
  • Application of artificial intelligence to optimise energy generation and distribution processes.
